Greetings.

I have changed my ISP and in doing so I increased the speed of the link, but I never received the increased speed and have been hassling them for weeks now to find out about it. Only to find out that the problem is obviously on my side as I got full speed out of connecting my Mac directly to the modem, but when going through the ClearOS gateway it limits the bandwidth to 4.79Mbit/s every single time (its a 12Mbit/s connection).

So I have been looking over settings and I just cant find anything wrong with it. I had my bandwidth control service off so it shouldnt limit it at all, but I have turned it on just to test and entered the proper speedlimits for up and down. But nothing helps. same speed down no matter what I set on the server.

The ClearOS is fairly new install, I have been running CC almost since CC started, but have periodically been upgrading or fresh installing under ways, and this server is about 3-4 months old. I am running it on Vmware 4.1 ESX, and have been doing so on 4.0 for a good while before this, also with a 14Mbit connection speed without problems. So I dont think Vmware is the problem but you never know. I did run the 14Mbit connecting on the same version of Vmware and on the same ClearOs install, and it worked well. Can there be anything with Vmware tools and the virtual nic? Just to ask?

Anyone have any tips for me, where to look and so on? I'd much appreciate it as this is getting tedious running on such low speeds. And yeah, I did search the forums for a bit but all I found was mostly dead threads where people either had faulty hardware or something similar. Thats not the case here as I am running several servers on it, and no performance problems at all.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: I just installed another fresh ClearOS 5.2 on the same ESX 4.1 server and it have no limitations. I installed with no modules at all except the integradet ones, and I also have not included vmwaretools.

Is there a way to remove the Bandwidth module installed on the original gateway? I wouldnt want to reinstall everything now cause I've done alot of work with the gateway, and perhaps is the bandwidth that is screwing with me?

My issue was a bad NIC.

    Hi Garrick,
this was the right answer. We put an 100mbit switch between the Provider network switch and our server nic and that solved our Problem. I have tried the switch first because we cannot shutdown the Mail Server for a short time.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
thank you for your answer but we use an static connection.
I have already seen this Thread but this can't help me.

Is there any other Service that limit the Bandwidth except the Bandwidth and QoS Service?

    Yours sincerely
    Bernd

    Hi,
we have the same Problem here too. We have since 2 weeks a 20Mbit SDSL Internet Connection, the Download ist with 19Mbit to 21Mbit very good but our Upload has an average speed about 4 or 5Mbit. I have disabled the Bandwidth and QoS service and tested many other services. I can see that the Uploadspeed changes frequently from 200kbyte/sec to 1,5mbyte/sec but it seems that something trys to limit the Speed.

We have ClearOS 5.2 installed, Bandwidth and QoS disabled, Protocol Filter enabled.

    Network Mode: Gateway Mode

eth0 External static IP 100Mbit (Intel Corporation 82557/8/9/0/1 Ethernet Pro 100 PCI)
eth1 LAN static IP 100Mbit (3Com Corporation 3C905CX-TX/TX-M Fast Etherlink)

    # ethtool -i eth0
    driver: e100
    version: 3.5.10-k3-NAPI
    firmware-version: N/A
    bus-info: 0000:01:0c.0

    # ethtool -i eth1
    driver: 3c59x
    version:
    firmware-version:
    bus-info: 0000:01:08.0

Can enybody help me with this Problem.

    Thanks for any answers.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad English.
