Started with slapd consuming 100% CPU and samba not starting.

I'm hoping someone can just point me at where to look next because I've lost track of what I've done and why. I've spent about four days trying to avoid reinstalling... Machine has a history, I'm sure a lot of other things are broke... I just wanted to share a printer. I should have just reinstalled.

Anyway, yeah, I'm stumped. openldap, samba, been reinstalled, along with tons of other stuff... accounts drivers folder deleted, "initialized" file deleted to force to re-initialize, did not resolve this...

If I go to the "Windows Networking (samba)" page, the "Mode" block is replaced with "! Error Domain name missing in LDAP"

It looks like you are in a real mess. ClearOS takes a configuration backup every night and keeps a rolling 10 days. Grab a copy from before your changes and grab it before all 10 days are this side of your change. You can get if from the webconfig or from /var/clearos/configuration_backup. Then restore it through the webconfig. If the webconfig is bust, there is a command line restore process somewhere in the HowTo's.

unfortunately I've been sitting on this problem for quite a while (samba on this box is non-critical and other work has been more important... I'm only getting to it today because most of our operation is shut down for the holiday week, so there's basically nothing else to do)

if there isn't a procedure to reinitialize whatever is broken then I suppose I'll have to reinstall the whole thing.

it needs it anyway, honestly. Meh. I'll just go fetch it from the server room and take my medicine. :)

From this, see the Slave section at the bottom. You may be able to reset LDAP like that, but if you've destroyed some of the initialised files you may have a problem. You may be able to work your way through the relevant deploy/install and deploy/upgrade scripts under /usr/clearos/apps/.

If desperate, and you have nothing to lose, you could try the ClearOS6 section in Re-initialize OpenLDAP Directory.

Hi, thanks for your time. I did "take my medicine" however. I didn't expect you to come back with further advice, so I accepted defeat. I had already spent 10x more time and energy trying to avoid reinstalling than I would by just reinstalling, so I did. A rather painless project, as all of our data (home, flexshares, www) is on a separate array.

I noted during the reinstall though... when you first install the samba app, the first time you hit that page in webconfig, there is a wizard there that only appears once. One of the things it demands is the domain... I did not get that wizard prior to the reformat. I'm guessing getting that wizard to re-run would/should have been my next step? I feel like I was so close...
