Hello. This is a fresh install of CoS 7 on a new build (Intel Baytrail, quad Celeron 1900MHz, nothing fancy). Just barely got started and got the message:
/usr/local/python2.7/site_package/pyanaconda/bootloader.py line 1572 (some other stuff off screen)
raise BootLoader Error ("failed to write boot loader configuration")
line 1773 in write self,write_config

So I abandoned that install and started over. It boots to grub now, but that's all. i disabled boot from the hard drive, and instead of grub or the installer it goes to the BIOS setup screen. I disabled boot from everything but the USB DVD, and it goes to BIOS, so somehow the USB got killed. It appears that nothing but grub installed because when I enable boot from HD it boots grub, but I can't get to anything else. The CMOS is probably hosed because my external USB DVD is no longer recognized.

I can reset CMOS (I think this board lets me do that) and see what happens, but things like this have a way of repeating and the screen this stuff originated from said it was a bug and to file a bug report with Red Hat. So here you go...I know you're not Red Hat, but here you go anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Good Luck...
One thing to be aware of, this board uses Realtek RTL8111G-CG Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mb/s) Ethernet LAN NICs. These require the r8168 driver. ClearOS by default will install the r8169 driver. The r8169 driver will result in poor intermittent connections. There are rpms available to fix this. This site is full of appends on this subject e.g. https://www.clearos.com/clearfoundation/social/community/clearos-constant-lockup-after-reinstall#reply-112761 for links...

Try This One, all daily testing iso's are also missing from my mirror but this is the latest iso i have for 7.2 dated end of october 2016. Perhaps it has the fix in it already.

Are you using UEFI - if so see https://www.clearos.com/clearfoundation/social/community/i-cannot-get-system-to-load-after-install#reply-123541

What mother-board? There have been a number of problems reported here over the years with these types of Intel SOCs of various types. The Gigabyte J1800 and J1900 in particular had a very nasty BIOS. Recently I believe it was reported a Gigabyte GA-N3150N-D3V giving problems on install.

What helped me out with this error was:

If I switch to a different shell when the error appears execute the following commands:
    chroot /mnt/sysimage
    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/centos/grub.cfg

I'm using a Mitac PD11BI mobo. Yes, UEFI may be a problem. You'll have to be tolerant here, I build a system every 4 years or so and don't stay in touch with things in between, so I'll have to do some research. The bios seems to have the ability to disable UEFI, which I am not convinced I need (more research). For starters I left everything in the bios at default except for the boot order. You would think that should be a safe option. First I have to get it to recognize the DVD again, though. Baby steps...

Thanks for being so willing to help.

I ran CoS 4.2, then 5.6 for years but the mobo died and I wanted to upgrade to 64 bits anyway. It was a similar, highly integrated SOC that installed without a hitch, but these things do not always go smoothly.

    Cheers,
    Sherman

FYI, I've had the same issue on two different machines, in both cases in trying to install CoS7 in a VM. I've tried using a legacy virtual NIC, no dice. Both have different Realtek chipsets in the NICs (onboard, in both cases) - one's a 4-year-old Dell and the other's a 2-year-old Gigabyte MB with AMD chip/chipset. Hard to avoid the problem - I'd hazard a guess that 75% of the boards I've used in the last four years have Realtek chips on them.

I got it working in Hyper-V on Windows 10 Enterprise. Finally.

Many thanks to Kari at this site: Ten Forums Tutorial

It wasn't enough to merely set the legacy NIC. It was also necessary to use the Generation 1 VM - Gen 2 apparently does not work. I had been told that downstream distros from Red Hat were capable of using Gen 2-type VMs but that apparently isn't always the case.

Gen 2 does work fine with Debian-descendants.

Still doesn't get us any closer to solving the OP's problem, though...
