Welcome to a New Year!,

We are excited to reiterate that there will be both ClearOS Server Major and Minor updates as more understanding of IBM's future of Red Hat is determined and better understood. That said we had many discussions (both internally and externally) around the future direction for ClearOS Server with many development teams and organizations.

Know the current ClearOS Server builds and updates are still viable and future ClearOS Server builds will have a future, it may not be as deep as prior ClearOS Server Major Releases and Minor Releases, however, ClearOS Server, is definitely a key part of the decentralized Digital Worlds future strategy (imaged) and squarely on the future Clear Companies Road Maps as many of the Clear Companies are some of the First Service Providers to the new decentralized Digital World.

ClearOS Mobile will help securely connect (via ClearLIFE Decentralization - cryptographically (12 words)) to ClearOS Server nodes around the world.

Thank you for continuing to support others as they utilize ClearOS Server over the years!

The future is bright. United, we can do anything! :)

Thanks for the update Michael. It reassuring to hear that you all plan to keep ClearOS active. There are so many outdates pages on the www.clearos.com site, it gives the appearance the project has been abandoned. It may be worthwhile to remove the outdated content and lighten the site up. Make it a smaller, simpler site to manage. Thanks again.

Gotta give props where props are due. ClearOS gets mentioned on the Joe Rogan podcast on 3/15/22. Daryl Davis & Bill Ottman discussing Minds social platform, privacy, deplatforming, free speech, etc. Great podcast. ClearOS mentioned around 45 - 47 minutes in. Related to ClearOS phone and privacy. Brief mention, but wanted to share. And as Joe held the ClearOS phone, he said said "ooo that's pretty"... win for ClearOS. :)

It is still viable but all recent attention has been around the Decentralised world. The forum itself needs replacing, but posting to the forum is up to the Community. If they ask fewer questions or become less involved, there is little we can do about it unfortunately.

Michael proper, the CEO, has promised to post this week.

Michael, you are the master politician! Just change the subject and this is identical to what we get from the elected leaders here - all promises and talk.

For example, what happened to the promise of a better community web-site? For years we have endured this slow, unreliable, clunky web-site. Some time ago it was totally unusable for weeks.

I fear there will be a last minute rush to produce something, just before end-of-life of CentOS 7, that is rushed and buggy. By the way I see nothing new in your links that wasn't there before this latest post of yours.

    Disappointed by your statement.

I will not defend my post or comment on your negativity, you are welcome to find another distro that fits your aspirations better.

      Best of luck.

That's just silly. When you abandon all progress, and can't expect the community to stay active.
I've sent Dave and Tyler an email to ask the same question a couple of weeks back. No reply.
We had a nice back and forth about some low hanging fruits from a user perspective 2 years ago.
But after that, never heard back. And no new versions since.
I also was starting to worry.

I only semi-agree. The community was already tailing off three years ago and this has been a feature of many forums. In ClearOS's case it is clearly exacerbated by lack of development, but I can't do anything about it. I have done my best to fix bugs and do small bits of development but it could have done with a lot more work. Now, if resources are made available, I personally think they would do better to add more sticky plasters to 7.x and get cracking with the next version.

FWIW, Dave left over 2 years ago.

    Late to the party...

Thank you for the update Michael. What do you exactly mean with

will have a future, it may not be as deep as prior ClearOS Server Major Releases and Minor Releases

Wil ClearOS 8 still be a compleet gateway, firewall and server OS? So I can assume that ClearOS 8 will be CentOS based. What framework is ClearOS 8 going to use?

The ClearOS product page and the forums indeed needs an update. Good to know it will be updated.

Michael, looking forward to a reply.

    @michael,

Since Nick has annouched to leave Clear, can you maybe let us know the way forward.
There was already a lack of communication with regards to COS and the forum, update or any support support was all handled by Nick
Does this mean COS is EOL ?
Will the be a replacement for Nick
How are the update and support be handled

I appreciate if you can reply and give us some positive news

    @michael,

Should we expect ClearOS to continue as network gateway, file, print, mail, messaging services, and SBS platform as it has been in the past, or do you see it's future differently? Regardless what the future holds for Red Hat and CentOS, do you foresee ClearOS maintaining the basic functionality it currently has?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Just got a notification that my subscription expires in 30 days. I doubt I'll be renewing. I think this is the end of my 15+ year relationship ClearOS. Time to find an alternative. It's been fun.
