Hello,

We're new users to ClearOS in our office. So far we are using ClearOS for mail (Zarafa) but I've also stood up a Domain as well and will be replacing our current domain with this one from ClearOS. This will allow our users to use the same login ID for their Windows Login as well as their Zarafa mail.

But I'd like to take it further and connect more of our other services to the user id's in ClearOS. We use ownCloud, Simple Groupware and an XMPP server as well as a third party vendor application for database input. I'd like to have one login id for all these other services so I can manage passwords all from ClearOS.

For this task will I be using our Domain Controller details or is this inter-connectivity using LDAP which is separate from the domain?

Hoping this community can give me some direction on which I will look to use to connect our various services together.

LDAP is basically a database of users and passwords and other network objects.

A domain is more of an abstract concept that represents a collection of related network objects.

In general, in network computing terms, a domain uses an LDAP directory to organize its objects.

In internet terms, a domain is something else, which is kind of sort of related and can have some overlap with a network domain. But let's leave that out of this discussion.

A Windows domain is simply a specific kind of network domain designed by Microsoft and is based on Active Directory. Active Directory is itself basically an LDAP with some more fancy stuff thrown on top, but is still backwards-compatible with vanilla LDAP.
