Peter, thanks for the heads up. Today I considered installing samba directory but I'm glad I didn't . It's to early I notice.

    [offtopic]
I finished a new build that is running unRAID. Maybe in the future I migrate this server also to ClearOS. Planning a rebuild of my old server which was running unRAID but from now on is a ClearOS. I have to update my build log. Good to be running a ClearOS server again. Install was butter smooth.

Just a reminder, the following apps are not yet supported by Samba Directory. If you install these, please expect brokenness!

    - Flexshare
    - Google Apps Synchronization
    - IMAP/POP Server
    - Mail Settings
    - Password Policies
    - RADIUS and Wireless
    - Windows Networking (Samba 3)
    - Zarafa

More beta information is here: https://www.clearos.com/resources/documentation/clearos/content:en_us:announcements_releases_clearos_professional_samba_directory_-_beta_1

There's a kludgy workaround to grab group and user information out of Samba (specifically: first name, last name, group description). The workaround uses an LDAP client to grab the information in an LDAP-way out of Samba's built-in LDAP server. Unfortunately, the LDAP client is no longer allowed to connect to the Samba LDAP server due to security certificate issues (or something like that). Fundamentally, this LDAP kludge needs to be replaced with a proper solution. No ETA... sorry.

    Workaround for Workaround

To get around the problem, we do have a workaround for the workaround. In smb.conf, add the following to the global section:

ldap server require strong auth = no

And then restart samba: service samba restart

Engin, reading the guide you only have to change "fstab" if your filesystem is "ext3"

Dave, this guide you wrote is for Windows users what about macOS users?

Edit: Hmm, I have to adjust my comment I'm not sure if this is even possible on macOS. To be honest the smb networking experience on macOS is less pleasant.

If I'm correct Samba 4 is still beta.. I experienced different issues with LDAP, Samba on ClearOS in the past.

    Edit: Nick already mentioned this.

I think that once you've activated the Samba Directory Server there is no way back to LDAP without a reinstall, and I've no idea how to fix your current problem.

Can I ask if you really need Samba Directory Services? It is only in Beta and not getting much attention. Would LDAP be OK as it is pretty much OK and has been in use for a few years. It is having the odd systemd teething glitch at the moment but the issue does not seem to affect many people. You can have Samba (Windows Networking) without Samba Directory Services.

It may be better to remove the flag on the accepted answer and reply to that thread. I won't be able to help as I don't know that part of the system.
