Tony Ellis has a post titled "Kernel Panic on ClearOS 6.7 with kernel 2.6.32-573.1.1.v6 and i915 drivers ". I use the same kernel and might get informed by Tony's post should I experience issues. Yet, I get a "Sorry, you don't have sufficient credentials" when I try to read it; presumably because Tony checked the "Make this post private. Only moderators would be able to view and reply to your discussion." box.

What is the point of a public forum announcing posts the users cannot read? And if such posts really are relevant, could the forum at least identify them up front so I and others don't have to click the headline before finding out that this is not for us?

Cheers,

Peter

The BIG secret is no more. I had inadvertently ticked that box , and seeing your append investigated and remedied the situation.

What I found particularly annoying when making that post was the pop-up box that appears when you make any changes to the subject. I make a few as I thought about how best to describe the append - and each time that wretched box appeared covering up my work. Surely once is enough to get the messages across - and on every time that message did appear, it was worthless as the past appends it thought were similar were are in fact nowhere near close.

I cannot wait for the day when this wretched site gets changed for the better - it's slow and frustrating and the human interface factors down right awful.

Sorry Peter for wasting your time...

I'll PM Tony. It probably has the "For moderators only" box accidentally checked.

Note there are mods and mods. Only the ones who are also devs or in that category (e.g. Tim Burgess) can see these posts. I can't.

    Hi Tony,

Thanks for your reply. And sorry for a late reply. The unfriendliness of the forum software sadly means I don't come here as often as I used to.

I never got a reply from the developers to my questions:

    1. Why announce a post to the general public that nobody can read except for the exclusive group of developers; as described by Nick?

    2. If such exclusivity must be announced generally, could we get an indication up front? Such indication would not only save lesser beings wasting time but would also offer the original author an opportunity to rectify a possibly absent minded click on the "developers only" box.

    Cheers,

    Peter
