Please run this release in a test VM or box, not on a live system!

The Zarafa and ClearOS 6 Mail Stack was released. Originally, we planned on just releasing the base Zarafa components, but all the pieces fell into place so most of the mail stack is available. The details are in the blog post and release instructions:

- Blog Post
- Installation and Configuration

Discussion Topics

A full integration test will begin this week, but right now we are interested in comments and questions about the underlying Zarafa implementation.

- Have we missed a Zarafa feature that you need? For example, Zarafa has "manager" and "direct reports" defined for every user. We could add these to the add/edit user page in ClearOS if desired.

- The Zarafa system uses the internal MySQL server instead of the main MySQL server. Does anyone prefer using the main MySQL server?

- By default, the Zarafa web client runs on the standard Web Server. Should we add support to have it run under the webconfig engine as well (port 83?)

    Well, I am not the technical but I can help you to some extent, to fix this error you can make use of the third party, Zarafa File Repair software, this is the best software to fix any error in type of error in the Zarafa database. It is easy to use and repair the corrupt database in just few clicks. So, this will help you try this out.

    Tim,
    I want a security/e-mail group to send as for a mailbox. Normally you would have to configure ldap to sendas for a mailbox on a user to user basis. What I want to achieve is set a group to have sendas permissions for a mailbox so if multiple users need access to say info mailbox I don't have to keep adding a new line in the ldap configuration. I can go into clearos edit a group and add a user to it so that group can send from info.

    It's not the same as a distribution group I don't want users to send as a distribution group it's an actual mailbox I want them to send from I just don't want to have to keep adding a user one by one I want to give a group permission to have sendas for that mailbox.

    *edit*

    I've just seen on zarafa forums they've re-released 7.1.11 due to rpms not working if your using an add-on on webaccess

    Thanks for the heads up - will investigate, test and upload onto the testing repo

    Regarding your earlier query - I couldn't replicate it, please could you provide a screen shot or more information? If I understand, you want many users to be able to send as another address but in this case it's a group distribution list? e.g. group1@mydomain.com

    FYI the Zarafa build in ClearOS is the same as the Zarafa produced version... the only change is the LDAP configuration.

    Timb,
    There's a new release that's come out for 7.1.11 this should fix the auto patching for zarafa client as the 7.1.10 had some issues, it also fixes a bug that certain outlook clients have when trying to open shared calendars saying it can't connect. Would you be able to put it into the testing repo by any chance?

    Hi James - sorry been away on holiday so missed your post

    Not sure I quite understand what you are trying to achieve? you want multiple people (from say 'group1') to be able to send as another mailbox alias but rather than defining it by each individual user, you want to assign zarafaSendAsPriviledge to a group?

    You can directly modify the LDAP database for existing users using tools like LDAPadmin or phpLDAPadmin, the structure may differ a little but you can still assign attributes to existing users if required

    Tim,
    I was wondering if you could help me with something.

    I want to set a distribution group in clearos to sendas for a mailbox.

    I have been able to set individual users to sendas by adding zarafaSendAsPrivilege on the uid nubmers. For groups, this seems to be quite tricky, after spending a few hours with zarafa support on the phone, the ldap is quite different in clearos and as it's not one of their downloaded packages they don't support it so I wouldn't be able to get help from them.

    Have you been able to personally do sendas yourself by using a group you've made on clearos rather then doing delegates if so how have you acheived this?

    Apparently I should just be able to use sendasprivilege and set info on the group but the schema from ldap on clearos doesn't allow me to do this.

    I'm back now I see 1.10 is in the repos so will give it a test in the next few days provided things are alright hope to deploy to a few clients who definitely could use it, thanks alot for providing it Tim it's greatly appreciated.

    *edit*

    Have been playing around with it for a while and looks good so think I'll deploy to a new client this week thanks for putting in the time for getting the testing repos up to date timb. Click2Run and this outlook auto patching is a really big step for zarafa and from having to deal with the ear aches from clients about outlook updates it's really going to make my life alot easier thanks for the work you put in.

    I was looking at the bullet poitns again and it seems that it wasn't actual backups but archive backups using admin tool. I did think it was too good to be true...

    But this is good news regarding 7.1.10 being on the testing repo. When I'm back from honey moon I'll set up a test environment and give it a whirl and provide you some feedback about it.

    Yeah 7.1.10 is definitely something I'm looking forward to especially since I just remembered now it finally supports click to run also which would be amazing. I understand about stability for users which makes sense. Regarding the testing repo as long as it's the final releases of those versions I don't think I'll have problems upgrading the client versions to the test repos you have.

    Also if you ever need help with testing anything regarding zarafa please do let me know more then willing to provide feedback and help debug things to make your life easier.

    Hi James, yep! trying to keep up with upstream releases is a never ending task... as you note 7.1.10 looks to be significant. As a developer its often useful to try and maintain some code stability for users, rather than hitting them with updates all the time. Then there are others who need or want to test the latest version. This is the reason for having the additional testing repo's and when the formal release lands I'll lookat getting it pushed to the testing repo for feedback - thanks :)

    Hi Tim with zarafa 7.1.10 around the corner and in beta stage I'm wondering what's the update for clearos and zarafa as 7.1.8 is still in zarafa testing and 7.1.9 been out for a while is clearos going to catch up with this? I say this as 7.1.10 is quite a serious update in terms of the amazing features it provides ( auto client patching, zarafa backups using the zarafa-admin tool no longer needing a paid for subscription to do such a thing a VERY good idea on their part).

    Is this something we will see in the next coming months?

    Hi Sandro, what versions of Zarafa where you using on 5.2? you will need at least the same or a newer version on ClearOS 6.5 otherwise the zarafa-server service wont start due to the version difference in the mysql database (clue in the logs)

    If using 7.1.x then upgrade ClearOS 6.5 first using
    yum --enablerepo=zarafa-community-71 upgrade

    Or 7.1.8 which sits in testing for now
    yum --enablerepo=zarafa-community-testing upgrade

    The run '/usr/sbin/zarafa-condrestart' to restart the services

    I managed to find a big 'Gotcha' with migrating Zarafa from Cos5.2 to 6.4... Make sure your source server is a previous or equal release to the target!!! :woohoo:

    I spent (and wasted) some hours during the last week migrating a customer to ClearOS 6.3, but this all went badly at the very end when i realized i was migrating a Zarafa 7.1 database to 7.0 server.... it doesn't work!!!

    I'll need to wait for ZCP 7.1 to be released for CO6.3 before i can continue. Thankfully i hadn't gone too far and was able to perform a rollback! :dry:

    Otherwise, the migration process (as shared by Tim) worked quite nicely as far as i could tell.

    Hi Tim,

    I'm trying to get this up and running, but noticed that in my /etc/phpMyAdmin/config.inc.php I did not have this snippet to uncomment. i went ahead and pasted it in near the bottom of the config file, but now my question is, how do I access it? When i go to the mysql admin tool in clearos, it just takes me to the regular mysql databases and not the ones in the sandbox. What am i doing wrong?

    I have a problem with Zarafa. See the text below

    Your mailbox has exceeded one or more size limits set by your administrator.
    Your mailbox size is 93271 B.

    Mailbox size limits:
    * Warninglevel (90000 B)
    - When this limit is exceeded a warning message will be send
    * Softlevel (95000 B)
    - When this limit is exceeded you will not be able to send new email
    * Hardlevel (100000 B)
    - When this limit is exceeded you will not be able to send and receive new email

    To make more space available, delete any items that you are no longer using or use Zarafa Archiver to move old items to an archive server.
    If your organisation does not have the Zarafa Archiver yet, please refer to http://www.zarafa.com/content/zarafa-archiver for more information on this cost effective solution.
    Items in all of your mailbox folders including the Deleted Items and Sent Items folders count against your size limit.
    You must empty the Deleted Items folder after deleting items or the space will not be freed.
    See client Help for more information.

    I'll get this warning all the time. I have to set the "hard quota" every time larger. When i look on the "webaccess" it reports i only used 0,1MB. Any idea?

    Tim, do You try zarafa password change plugin with clearos? It would be nice if you could change the password in one place on zarafa webaccess. Or maybe integrate webaccess with user panel on clearos and use single sign on :)??

    Look: https://forums.zarafa.com/showthread.php?3111-passwd-plugin&p=18032&viewfull=1#post18032

    Hi All,
    problem with alliases can be easy resolved. We must modify /etc/postfix/zarafa-aliases.cf as below.

    server_host = ldap://127.0.0.1:389
    search_base = ou=Users,ou=Accounts,dc=example,dc=com
    query_filter = (|(clearMailAliases=%u)(mail=%s))
    result_attribute = mail
    result_format = %u
    search_timeout = 15
    scope = sub
    bind = no
    version = 3

    But it works with only one destination domain on server...
    If You use fetchmail to retrieval mail from other server You must use it as below for example

    poll mail.domain.com protocol pop3 username "user@domain.com" password "password" mda "/usr/bin/zarafa-dagent DESTINATION_USERNAME"

    Works for me fine ;) Mail for user@domain. com dont go to user@my-domain.com on my server :)

    Sorry for my english.

    I have made use of autobackupmysql and that does a daily job of running a mysql dump backup of the system-mysql. Unfortunately every time I try to attach it to this forum post it doesn't seem to work (don't know if that's due to permissions on my forum acc etc). If you would like it feel free to pm me I can send you a link to it where you can download it.

    Alternatively if you switch to the normal mysql you can just get the mysqldump backup from sourceforge, however an advisory switching to normal mysql has caused me problems in a sense that I cannot set quotas for users, that only works if they are on the system-mysql this may have been fixed recently but I am unsure if it has.

    Marcel,

    The SQL dump method is a pain if you want to just take a singular account back to a certain period.
    http://www.broobles.com/imapsize/download.php dumps each account into eml files if you know the passwords.

    Glad you have it working :)

    Zarafa stores everything in Mysql, so to backup using the community version use 'mysqldump' (there are a couple posts on the forum for System-Mysql). You can safely remove and reinstall Zarafa separately from System-Mysql so your Mail etc is still intact.

    If you want individual mailbox 'brick' level backup then you'll need the Professional version of Zarafa.

    Okay Tim that worked. There was already the directory /etc/zarafa/gateway and also the certificates. I think this were old clearOS certificates. I copied as you said. I enable SSL on my iOS device and yes it's working. Thanks!

    What if i have lots of mail in Zarafa and i want to reinstall my server (sometimes necessary when i do something stupid). Zarafa make use of Mysql? I think we need some way to backup.

    Hi Marcel, i'm not sure the SSL changes have made the app yet...but to get POP3S or IMAPS working you need to copy the system certificates to the right place

    Try the following (assuming you have generated a system certificate using the webconfig certificate manager first):-
    mkdir /etc/zarafa/gateway
    cp /etc/pki/CA/sys-0-cert.pem /etc/zarafa/gateway/cert.pem
    cp /etc/pki/CA/private/sys-0-key.pem /etc/zarafa/gateway/privkey.pem
    service zarafa-gateway restart

    Hi tomas, Zarafa-community app is part of the 6.3.0 beta testing and doesn't exist in the normal repo's.. see Bens post here
    http://www.clearfoundation.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,232/catid,14/func,view/id,43498/#43529

    Hi Alex, if you have purchased it through the Marketplace I believe you can then try installing via yum, which will give you better feedback as to which package is failing. Try 'yum clean all && yum install app-zarafa*'

    Hi Enzo,
    1. you appear to have the rpmforge repo enabled? confirm with 'yum repolist'
    2. it should have been installed when you installed the app...try 'yum install zarafa-indexer'
    3. this is a temporary issue until the Marketplace records are updated...is this for one particular app (other than Zarafa)
    4. thanks for the feedback, i've not seen that before

    Hello, I am here again. I installed the Beta 3 from scratch, but I found some problems.
    1) when I run yum update I get this error:
    Resolving Dependencies
    --> Running transaction check
    ---> Package perl-Convert-UUlib.x86_64 1:1.34-1.el6.rf will be updated
    --> Processing Dependency: perl(Convert::UUlib) >= 1.08 for package: amavisd-new-2.6.6-3.v6.noarch
    ---> Package perl-Convert-UUlib.x86_64 2:1.4-1.el6 will be an update

    Updated By: 2:perl-Convert-UUlib-1.4-1.el6.x86_64 (clearos-epel)
    perl(Convert::UUlib) = 1.4
    You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
    You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

    2) In Zarafa services I have Zarafa Search Indexer Stopped and I can't start because is not installed

    3) I often find in the right of the gui error like this: Additional Info: Record not found (bla bla bla)

    4) There is a little bug in the user creation, i.e. when I add a new user (or update an existing one) and in the user group I tick the box, Disallowed Key Characters appear (workaround, create the user and after add the user to a group via teh groups menu).

    That's all ;-)

    Hi Tim,
    we tried again and same error: Exception: "Errors were encountered while downloading"

    The "automatic" Updates after new install where working, and after this error you can install all the others (nopaid) apps.
    So its not looking like a connection issue.

    Hi webserver is running. I have checked all services in webconfig - up and running.
    Tried:
    rpm -qa | grep zarafa

    result nothing.

    That got me thinking. I have ClearOS 6.2 Pro installed and close to 20 days of evaluation left. I'm planning to buy subscription if I manage to set up services I want - automysqlbackup - I need mail notifications for that!, SARG, backupPC,

    It looks like Zarafa Community is not installed. I ran:

    yum --enablerepo=clearos-developer,clearos-updates-testing install \
    app-zarafa-community app-mail-antivirus app-mail-antispam app-greylisting app-smtp

    one more time and output for is

    Setting up Install Process
    No package app-zarafa-community available.
    Package 1:app-mail-antivirus-1.2.2-1.v6.noarch already installed and latest version
    Package 1:app-mail-antispam-1.2.2-1.v6.noarch already installed and latest version

    Hi Alexander, any clues on what package failed? perhaps a connection issue? /var/log/yum.log may have clues.

    Hi tomas, it should work for both HTTP and HTTPS...have you got the web server running? if so, try restarting it again connecting again 'service httpd restart'. If still not working what's the output of 'rpm -qa | grep zarafa'?

    Hi Koopa, the first issue is a known bug.
    http://tracker.clearfoundation.com/view.php?id=674

    You can change the 'from address' only if the user is appointed as Zarafa Admin (at least confirmed that it works here). The current LDAP setup doesn't permit normal users to have the 'zarafaSendAsPrivildge' - maybe in a future version?

    Or changing the 'reply-to' entry and your mail will be sent 'on behalf of xxx'.

    I have a similar problem to bsleys. I have 6.3 installed with the mail stack and email send/receives as expected until I insert an alias for a user. When I add the alias 'something' to a user then 'something@anything' does not leave the server and is sent to the user. If I remove the alias then it works as it should..

    If I create a distribution list for the alias and add the user to it I can send/receive mail ok. But then when I tried to set the return address I came accross the following

    If I edit the settings in zarafa webaccess to add a 'send from' email address when I then try to send from this address the mail is returned with the following message

    'Unfortunately, I was unable to deliver your mail.
    The error given was:

    You are not allowed to send as user or group

    You may need to contact your e-mail administrator to solve this problem.'

    Small Problem with Zarafa Community Marketplace Installation.

    I paid the 10$ Tim-fee (I think thats very cheap for the excelence support) for my server and installed the app without any problem.
    But on a Server from an partner-company, they also paid the app, the download from the packages is working, and after the last download there is only a red message like "Download aborted" (sorry its a german language-system)

    Where should we look to find the Problem. Anyone with the same problem?

    Its a fresh install from 6.3 beta (my system is a upgraded 6.2, maybe this is the different?)

    Greetings

    An updated version of the SMTP Server is available. It includes:

    - The old "Relay Host" feature
    - Mail Forward Domains (typically used for implementing a ClearOS mail gateway)

    To install the new update, run:

    yum --enablerepo=clearos-updates-testing upgrade app-smtp

    Hi Peter, in 5.2 I used the transport map to specify which domains or indeed users were to be forwarded to Zarafa. (Mainly so it could coexist with Horde) The Zarafa delivery agent then determines using the ldap search query which inbox it should arrive at, this should also work with aliases? The transport map could be populated with the destination domains configured in the webconfig

    It's not in the 6.3.0 Beta, but it will be in the final release. I was hoping to merge the "Mail Notification" and this "Relay Host" feature (and also add outbound username/password authentication). That won't happen, so we'll go with the old way of doing things.

    Good catch Bob. And sorry for missing your report Alexander :ohmy:

    The LDAP query for aliases/mail addresses is a bit too loose. For the tech guys - see /etc/postfix/zarafa-aliases.cf :

    server_host = ldap://127.0.0.1:389
    search_base = ou=Users,ou=Accounts,dc=example,dc=com
    query_filter = (|(clearMailAliases=%u)(mail=%u@*))
    result_attribute = mail
    result_format = %u
    ...

    That might a bit nasty to fix since we need to be able to capture all the valid "destination domains". The search query can be expanded to explicitly list all the destination domains, but I wonder if there's a better way.

    I hope that makes some sense. This caused a few headaches to track down and thankfully we don't have a lot of users with local accounts with the exact same username on other services like gmail.

    I gathered that... it would have been nicer to use the webconfig sandbox because then I wouldn't need to open an additional port. I guess my preferences are the inverse of what 6.2 is doing -- sandbox webserver instead of standard and user Mysql instead of of system Mysql, but oh, well. I guess I'll survive.

    I'm experimenting with Zarafa and the old familiar php-mapi issue from 5.25 days has recurred yet again on 6.2 when using the webconfig server instance.

    Not Found: PHP mapi extension not found
    If you have upgraded zarafa, please restart Apache

    Zarafa WebAapp can't start because of incompatible configuration.

    Please correct above errors, a good start is by checking your '/usr/clearos/sandbox/etc/php.ini' file.

    Or if you wish, you can disable this config check by editing the file '/usr/share/zarafa-webapp/config.php', but this is not recommend.

    It's installed, sure enough....

    [root@system ~]# rpm -qa | grep php-mapi
    php-mapi-7.0.7-34256.x86_64

    Is it recommended to run Webapp on the standard Apache server instead of the Webconfig server?

    Tim

    Thanks

    looked at /var/log/maillog and it would appear nothing is getting thought Ive now had one bounce back as undeliverable after a number of days.

    Ive been able to telnet into the smtp server at this point from inside my lan, just got stopped senting an e-mail test manually as from inside my lan it would appear the system thinks Im acting as a relay and wont allow me to send to my other e-mail address.

    From an external location when I tried to test access I ran into dns problems ip addres would bring up my web server test page but the domain name failed

    Likewise when I tried nslookup it failed for my domain name registered with Clear Center but returned the mail server info for my isp registered domain name.

    It would appear that my problem is not a nonh functioning zarafa instalation but dns confusion upstream at my isp (?)

    looks like I may have to look at external hosting to get this working

    Deos the domain portion of your email resolve outside your network? i.e. user@domain.com, where domain.com is a DNS A or MX record pointing to your WAN IP address?

    You can find out if mail is actually arriving at your box by looking at /var/log/maillog

    Thanks that would appear to be my problem as I have a domain name hosted by my isp for a constant e-mail address and it would appear that the ms record is attached to my static ip address for this

    will try some testing from an outside system not related to my lan/wan, it would appear that even thought port 25 is open it is compromised at the isp server for my new domain name and mail.

    It looks like I may at this time find way to host this domain name off site as I doubt I would have any luck fixing this with the isp

    Still having problems with my install of zaraf beta 2

    everything appears to be installed webadmin has the zarafa smtp and mail menu options

    all the zarafa options are shown as running

    I can't find any error's listed in any of the zarafa logs , without the network reports that were in 5.2 I can't see what ports are being opened if at all, I'm not sure if anything is being sent and nothing is being saved in the database and I cannot save any new contacts.

    I may have set up the domain name vs machine name incorrectly I'm not sure here I checked Clear Centre portal and the mx flag is set on

    Using Gibson Research shields up scan port 25, 110, are both open so at this point I would assume that Telstra is not activly blocking them

    I have set portforwarding on the modem to the server's wan ip address ie port 25 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2, I did this as my voip pbx wont work if the sip, rtp and other required port are not forwarded and thought that it would be the same for zarafa?

    I'm not sure where to look now or what logs to post ect if any

    Hello Stuart,
    emails where alway stored in mysql-database and some times ago also attachments where stored in the database, but it was possible to change it to filesystem.
    Now its default in the filesystem, you can see the location in the /etc/zarafa/server.cfg

    # When attachment_storage is 'files', use this path to store the files
    attachment_path = /var/lib/zarafa

    And yes, for bigger installations you should have a look to the "Zarafa Archiver"

    Alexander it been a time since I looked at Zarafa and I might have attachments confused here. I thought the emails where stored in the file system but my memory is vague on this and it might of been file attachments.

    Anyway I agree as there is no limitation in store size and the archiver can help keep a speedy system but also deal with huge stores.
    It allows your main store to utilise speedy disk access and you can dump the archive onto slower and lower cost storage.

    I would suggest purchasing a pro license though as if you are scaling up the backup and restore facilities are very simple in the community edition.

    Never heard from a limitation, the emails are stored in a mysql-Database, so I think you should search the limit from mysql-Databases but we dont talk about some Terabyte.

    Hello Alexander....

    thanks for the instructions on the fetch, i will deploy it tomorrow...

    about the question on the store size, microsoft exchange 2003 has a limit of 75GB and exchange 2010 is 1 TB.

    does zarafa has a limitation on the store size?

    Kind Regards...

    Hello gerardoandrade,
    maximum size of the complete mail store is very high or what do you mean?
    Here you can see what Hardware is required for big Zarafa-Storages:
    http://doc.zarafa.com/7.0/Administrator_Manual/en-US/html/_installing.html

    You can install fetchmail via yum: yum install fetchmail and then you has to make a configuration-file, normally /etc/fetchmailrc
    where you want to download username,password and where it is on the Clearos system. Maybe you have to use the full name (with maildomain) from the clearos-server (alex@clearos.local)
    https://calomel.org/fetchmailrc.html

    Good Day all... i have this questions about ClearOS 6:

    what is the maximum size that zarafa can handle on the mail store.
    what it will be the command line to enable to fetch email from a hosting company.
    simple questions... but i can't find them....
    I really like the new ClearOS 6 looks and specially that i can actually use more memory ram since is 64bits..

    Thanks guys....

    Thank you Tim, I thin we cleared now everything.

    Today I have an new Problem an I dont know if I have done anythin wrong or if it is a bug:
    If I sent out mails from my ClearOS 6 with a local username like alex@anyhostname.com the mail dont leave the host and is sent to the local user alex. Also with an Alias-name a.gehrer@anyother.com I receive it local.

    Other names ar working fine and going to my relayhost.

    Im using a relayhost with authentication (sasl-password) like in 5.2

    Can anyone test if its only my individuell problem or isit a mailrouting-bug?

    Just to be clear, you can connect Outlook using Imap or pop3 with as many users as you like...without Zarafa-licensed. If you do install the licensed rpm you are able to connect 3 clients using the Zarafa exchange plugin for free, which offers all the normal Outlook benefits such as shared calendars, public folders, global address book etc

    Additional licenses can be bought through the Market place

    @Socs28:
    James Joseph is right, you can download the free zarafa-communityversion and install the zarafa-licensed. Then its posible to connect with 3 Outlooks.
    # yum install sysstat
    # rpm -Uvh zarafa-licensed-7.0.7-34256.x86_64.rpm
    # service zarafa-licensed start
    # service zarafa-server restart

    To check if its working:
    # tail /var/log/zarafa/licensed.log

    Output:
    Fri Jun 15 06:52:40 2012: ZCP serial in '/etc/zarafa/license' is invalid. Assuming default 3-user license
    Fri Jun 15 06:52:40 2012: ZCP license for 3 Win32 MAPI users

    Now you can connect with the zarafa-winclient and Outlook.

    For understanding:
    Communityversion without licensed: unlimited users, no Outlook
    Communityversion with licensed running: unlimited users and 3 Outlooks
    Licensed Version(key in /etc/zarafa/license/base): limited users, unlimited Outlooks

    A tip when using imapsync to transfer mail from 52. to a 6.2 mail server... (or at the very least my experience...)

    It is better to run imapsync on the new 6.2 server to fetch mail from the old 5.2 server than to run imapsync on the old server to push mail across to the new server...

    I found that running the older version of imapsync (1.267-1.1.v5) on the 5.2 box the 6.2 box Zarafa would eventually lock-up with the Zarafa Storage Server daemon failing... when running imapsync (1.484-1.el6.noarch) on the new server - this didn't happen, and was very consistent. This testing was with a largish mailbox of 2G+ - for a single user. As a bonus the formatting of the progress report with the newer version is much better, and the transfer runs faster.

    Other thing of note is that Zarafa puts a much higher load on the system than Horde and is much much slower syncing mail. When I have time I will run some comparative tests as the hardware on my production backup mail server running Horde on 5.2 is quite similar to the test 6.2 box running Zarafa and should therefore provide useful numbers...

    I know webapp has got some slight issues but it's been improving at least there's a choice, I think there was a recent build that came out a little while ago don't know which version you may be using see if it solves your problems?

    I know webapp is the future, but right now it seems to be not quite ready for prime time. When updating labels in calendar view the color doesn't change. It doesn't default to taking you to any given folder and task due dates and start dates don't work correctly. Funny thing is if you change the label in webapp, which doesn't show the color, then go to webaccess, the color has changed even though webaccess doesn't give the option to change the label. What would be best is if the color changed by category similar to Outlook.

    And speaking of Outlook, are we not going to be able to connect Outlook to the community version because of the licensed package not being available?

    Thanks for all the work

    Do I need to open ports on my modem if so which ones?

    Anything else that may help would be appreciated ie are there logs that I could check for errors?

    It's pre-configured to be a gz file however you can change it to .bz2 if you want.

    *edit* sorry seem to be having a bit of issues attaching the file on the forum.

    I just tried to do a test of backing up using automysql it seems it won't support the sandbox mysql per say but yours seems to work, however I don't have the root password for system-mysql only the one for zarafa. But the zarafa one backs up fine without needing root.

    *edit* on a plus note I did delete the table and restore it and that seems to work perfectly fine so thanks for that tim, greatly appreciated :)

    I'll try play around with bash scripts to see if I can get the backup automated then if I can get it working I'll post the code here.

    No problems - just make sure you only manipulate the zarafa database contained within it, and not the others which are required for the webconfig etc :)

    I have succesfully dropped the existing zarafa database, created a new one, and imported my old ClearOS5.2 Zarafa mysql dump into it. The only trick is to use the system-mysql commands in /usr/clearos/sandbox/usr/bin/

    For anyone looking to migrate from ClearOS 5.2 (Zarafa 7.x) to ClearOS 6.2 my notes are on the attached document :)

    Note that after importing the old database, Zarafa may still create new stores for your users (even if they have the same name) and you have to reattch the old stores to the right username. I'm pretty sure you could get round this my migrating your LDAP users between versions too but the how to doesn't cover that.

    James, you can just pass it the credentials / port of the system-mysql service, or run your own mysqldump?

    System-mysqld runs on port 3308, zarafa database is owned by mysql user 'zarafa', and database password is found in /etc/zarafa/server.cfg (mysql_password)

    /usr/clearos/sandbox/usr/bin/mysqldump -u root -p -v --single-transaction zarafa | gzip > /var/tmp/zarafa-mysql-dump.gz

    Or see the Zarafa wiki post

    I use the autobackupmysql scrip it is in sourceforge, it's what zarafa recommends for the non paid for version. It backs up all your mysql databases incrementally day by day.

    Here's a link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/autobackupmysql/

    Also regarding the description if you go to zarafa community app in clearos you will see that description I noticed that too you do need zarafa licensed to be able to use mapi or zarafa server just won't work.

    What procedure are you using to backup Zarafa MySQL?

    I still see that the zarafa app doesn't let you change the ports for imap/ical quite easily like in 5.2. Can we confirm that this will be possible in the final release?

    I'll add that tweak in for the next round of updates this week.

    Also where is this location for distribution list I don't see that anywhere on the server?

    The group distribution lists? That's just a normal LDAP group.

    Yup.

    I was hoping to add support for relay hosts that require SMTP authentication. This would then merge with the existing "Mail Notification" app. I think we'll save that change for another day though.

    What Tim said! The "SMTP Destination Domains" is where you can add additional domains.

    3. Distribution list support is great. Very pleased about that. Can we have a GUI to configure Distribution List members as email addresses only, instead of system users. IOW, what if I want an external person to be a member of the Distribution List reports@mycompany.net, but who isn't a Zarafa user.

    It's possible, but not implemented. You can create a user in LDAP with a "contact-only" attribute. These entries would be visible in Zarafa's Global Address Book, but not ClearOS users in any other sense. When/if implemented, we'll try to keep the framework generic so that it can be used across all mail/groupware solutions (e.g. Google Apps, Horde/Kolab, and others).

    Just updated to beta 2 of zarafa and I'm liking what I see so far. From what I can see :

    * Fetchmail is working via the command line and using crontab where it didn't before. This is great, even if it's not an app if this is possible I can deal with that.

    * I can send e-mails with attachments without any problem and view the attachments

    * Webapp is MUCH faster then before to start up and is very efficient

    Still one issue that concern me a bit:

    * user mysql still not supported in a sense that if I use user mysql quotas will not work, it only allows e-mails if you set it to unlimited. It's quite important to be able to use mysql server and not this system one so that it's possible to backup using a mysql script.

    I still see that the zarafa app doesn't let you change the ports for imap/ical quite easily like in 5.2. Can we confirm that this will be possible in the final release?

    /Feedback

    Also where is this location for distribution list I don't see that anywhere on the server?

If you upgraded from beta 1, you can delete the licensed server:

    Well, no that's not what I had in mind. What I need to do is send an email (from a software service) to the email address: reports@mydomain.com which then ensures that members of that list receive that email.

    According to the wiki doc, that's what I understood Groups as Distribution Lists to be:
    Go to System Accounts Groups to create a group or two. You will see a new option when adding/editing a group: Distribution List. If you leave this option enabled, the group becomes a mail distribution list (e.g. sales@example.com will go to all the members of the sales group).

    Distribution Lists via the Address Book are just shortcuts for typing addresses, not an email account that distributes to all members - unless I'm missing a critical step.

    I'm having the same experience as you Tim. Zarafa is working great and the migration process was smooth too.

    With your IMAPS/POP3S fix, I think you need to copy key.pem to privkey.pem which is what is referenced in gateway.cfg (if that's making sense).

    Now all I need to do is to work out a good backup script (although since zarafa uses MySQL this should make things easier).

    Hah! I hadn't doublechecked before posting, but for some reason I was sure you had done it. :-) Here's to hoping somebody does it for 6.2. ;-)

    5.2 never supported multiple domains as such...e.g. user1@domain1.com and user1@domain2.com were actually the same users inbox. This is still the case in 6.2, however you can add "destination" domains in the SMTP server config so that postfix will accept mail for other non-default domains.

    Yes, ok - destination domains was what I was inquiring about. The System/Mail Settings page allowing only one domain raised the question and I didn't read the STMP Server page thoroughly. :-( It's rather clear... :-|

    Peter, will we see a return of the outbound relay host in 6.2 too? this was crucial for use as a private mail server.

    +1

    Great to see the progress on the mail stack! :woohoo: I have a few questions here:

    1. According to System/Mail Settings, it appears that only one email domain can be configured. In 5.2 we could support multiple domains. Will that no longer be the case with 6.2?

    2. Tim Burgess had made an Antispam Quarantine app for Webconfig which I found enormously useful in 5.2. Will that be implemented in 6.2?

    3. Distribution list support is great. Very pleased about that. Can we have a GUI to configure Distribution List members as email addresses only, instead of system users. James,

    Good questions, below are your answers and restated questions:

    Q: 1) Since you are using Zarafa Professional on your ClearOS Professional will you allow people to buy small business edition of zarafa for ClearOS Community edition.

    A: 1) Currently Zarafa Professional and Zarafa Community are the only two options available.

    Q: 2) Are re-sellers of ClearOS Professional able to sell these subscriptions of Zarafa to customers or must it only be bought from the market place?

    A: 2) Currently the only supported option for ClearCenter Partners to resell the Zarafa Professional for ClearOS Professional is via the ClearOS Marketplace.

    Alex,

    Yes. When combining any ClearOS Professional Subscription and Zarafa Professional for ClearOS one would receive the equivalent features of Zarafa Professional Edition for just $24 USD per/year per/user.

    This will soon be a disruptive offering for organizations that require a solid mail and groupware solution with advanced features such as BlackBerry Support, and high-availability set-ups based on ClearOS Professional.

    Keep in-mind that Zarafa Professional for ClearOS is only available in the ClearOS Marketplace and must have an active ClearOS Professional Subscription .

    Is there a way to set to show standard (am/pm) time vs. Military time for the default? I know for each user, they can set it in settings to language being English (US) and that fixes it per user. Also, can we make Sunday the first day of the week in the calendar?

    Another minor issue...zarafa-ical is set to default port 8080 which clashes with the proxy/dansguardian-av causing all pages to prompt for a password

    Hello,

    I've installed the mail stack and notices that the spanish version of Zarafa webmail have some language hints (for example, when selecting the "print" icon the legend appear as "please select an email to delete").

    Horde have a nice filter that is "auto respond" (for example, for vacations), and also the redirect mail has an option to "save a copy to inbox of the incoming mail", both options does not appear in the new filter options of zarafa

    Thanks you,

    Hi everyone,

    It's a bug in the "Mail Routing" app. I'm hoping to get a working beta by the weekend, but that's a moving target.

    Tech stuff/TMI: the "Mail Routing" is the same old code used in version 5.x. There's a place where a temp file name (the file that holds the e-mail message) is generated using the class name for mail routing. In ClearOS 6, classes use namespaces (e.g. \clearos\apps\mail_routing\Transport instead of just Transport). Those backslashes => broken temp file name => body of message disappears.

    It occurs because the user was created before the LDAP mail domain was set (System > Mail Settings). If you edit the user in the webconfig and update it should work OK. You'll notice the email address is without a domain user@ instead of user@domain.com

    I wouldnt be looking for full "multi-tenant" support (which hosts multiple domains on one host server), but clearOS does advertise multi-site abilities, especially in clearOS 6, and zarafa is capable of being on multiple machines in the same domain, and distributing mail to each user's local server (in the same way Exchange handles multiple servers - mailboxes can be stored on the user's closest server)

    I would like to think this is something you could implement - having PPTP and content filter settings etc per location would be nice but unnecessary at this time.

    Hi all, i'm new to posting on the forums, but iv'e been a reader for some time, and run several clearos boxes (including one with a commercial license of zarafa)

    I'm just wondering, since clearOS 6 brings a lot more in the way of "multi-site" support, i.e LDAP is able to sync across sites etc, will the Zarafa plugin be capable of a multi-site setup? i.e can a central (head office) server act as the main mail gateway, and the mail store for all head office users, but mail for users in each satellite office get sent across to the zarafa instance in their office (making outlook etc behave nice and quick, and distributing the load of multiple users/sites)

    i'll be reassembling my test box this week too, so i'll pop a copy of CO6 on it, and give your Alpha a try!

    Peter,
    Just got it installed, nice that it works out of the box, just a couple of things:

    Zarafa-App

    In clearos 5.2 you were allowed to disable/enable pop/imap in the web interface along with also changing the ports, is this going to be possible again or is this just not available due to this being a beta test if that's the case then fair enough that's fine.

    User creation

    When adding a new user now on clearos There is an e-mail section that is blacked out while alias is available to write. Is it possible on 6.2 for you to enable to not make the username the e-mail address? That would be great some times we would like to have a username mail.info and of course there can be an alias that is info but when sending it will send as mail.info and not info@domainname.com

    If this is a feature you can impliment that would be pretty amazing.

    webmail/certs

    It's really great that https works out of the box without doing quite alot of configuring like before on 5.2 for that thanks alot you've saved alot of monitinous work for me :)

    I just wanted to know a few things:

    * Z-push when it gets implimented/in your testing repos will that also be https by default like the webmail or will we need to use proxy pass for that too?

    mysql/attachments

    I just set up zarafa to use the normal mysql which seems to only work if you set the user to be unlimited if you choose a normal quote like 10GB it's full up.

    system-mysql quotas seem fine, so I'm guessing clearos isn't set to use the normal mysql at all. Are there any plans in the near future to support normal mysql for zarafa?

    So far this looks really good. I did have to enable imap and pop manually as pointed out by Tim. Easy fix though.

    One thing I haven't been able to make work properly is imapsync. It keeps throwing a "NO APPEND" error which is confusing me.

    Other than that, the implementation is great and the webapp is very slick. I haven't used Zarafa before now but I certainly feel like I've been missing out. Can't wait for the final release!

    @ Dylan - hold off on implementing a mail server right now :ohmy: This initial release was really intended for getting some initial design feedback and I would not be surprised if some functionality is not working. The next step is to integrate the suggested changes and start running a live server (eat or own dog foot). We'll then release a beta and we can go from there.

    I've never really investigated it, but Zarafa offers a Zarafa-contacts functionality such that users can store contact information in LDAP...is that feasible?

    That will have to wait. This should be done in a generic way so that other software packages could take advantage of it. Kolab has the same functionality and I'm sure others do too.

    Will Zarafa support a multi-tenancy setup? or are you still going for the single mail domain target for SOHO use

    Multi-tenancy won't be supported.

    Its also been requested in the past to be able to configure 'zarafaSendAsPrivilege' so that nominated users can send on behalf of someone else. Such that user1@domain.com can actually appear as full.name@domain.com when sending mail. I couldn't spot a better way of achieving except without some clever maps in postfix to change outgoing mail. Is it possible to select the outgoing mail based on the users list of predefined aliases?

    I'll have to look into that. Adding to the Zarafa Extension is the first step - tracker #616

    for some reason the default /etc/zarafa/server.cfg disables POP3 and IMAP (see disabled_features = imap pop3), not really sure why

    Unintended. We can certainly change that!

    Glad to hear that zarafa test are already underway I will set up a 6.2 box to test, however a suggestion just to add regarding what tim said:

    * Please allow option of mysql database for backup purposes for community users, it's fine for people who professional they will have zarafa-backup but for community it makes it hard.

    * Public folders should probably be increased alot, we had a company who had a public folder of 18GB of e-mails definately 100MB won't be enough, I think thel imitation should increase.

    I'll provide more feedback next week.

    I'm having a little trouble getting this working, hope this is the right place to post. I'm pretty sure it's the result of a faulty configuration on my part rather than an issue with the program. I have everything installed and it's showing up in the web config and everything. I can open the web based mail client and write messages. The problem is that I can't seem to send or receive mail. This is of course kind of a problem in a mail server.

    I'm pretty sure I've forwarded all the necessary ports - in addition to SMTP I've also got IMAP, POP3, and the secure versions of both forwarded just in case to the server itself (I only had the SMTP port forwarded for my router, though). I've double and triple checked that the email addresses are right. It's possible my ISP is blocking port 25 (I hear lots do, and this is my first time trying to run a mail server) which would explain why I'm unable to deliver mail from my gmail client but I can't seem to send mail within my LAN either.

    I followed the steps listed here to get things running. Aside from forwarding the ports through the firewall is there anything I should know about this, knowing that I've never run a mail server before? I'm also fairly new to ClearOS. I'm somewhat familiar with linux and can ssh into the server to change configuration files and permissions and stuff if necessary but it looks like I should be able to handle this through the web interface.

    The main way I've tried to test it is by sending e-mail from me@server.network.net to otheruser@server.network.net (so I don't need to worry about port forwarding from my router or the dynamic dns or my ISP quite probably blocking port 25). Is there any problem with doing this?

    One other thing: I'm running this on a physical machine. I installed ClearOS on this machine for the express purpose of messing around with it anyway, and the only things of any value on the machine are backed up.

    I'm happy to provide any information needed to help get this running.

    @ duncan

    That "mail gateway" feature needs to be implemented properly and should really be a separate app. That has been a feature request for quite some time, but it has yet to materialize. I realize that version 5.2 can be configured as a mail gateway, but it's not a proper implementation. Here's why.

    A mail gateway needs to have a list of valid e-mail addresses so that it can reject invalid mail addresses right away. Without this information, the target mail system will be creating backscatter. That's not being a good Internet citizen and it will get the mail gateway listed on blacklists too.

    In the first mail stack release, the SMTP Server app no longer has the "Mail Forward" configuration option. We have to be good Internet stewards, and making it easy to create backscatter doesn't fit the bill. That "Mail Forward" feature in SMTP should really transform into the Mail Gateway app. This new app would need a way for an administrator to provide a list of valid e-mail addresses. This could be done via:

    - an LDAP / Active Directory Connector
    - a simple import tool
    - manually editing a list in the app web interface

    The "Mail Forward" feature will likely still appear in the final version of 6 since its original intention (forwarding outbound mail) is still required. I'm no a fan of enabling backscatter though.

    I have no interest in the Zarafa implementation. Will we be able to pass mail thru (after being checked for spam and viruses) to another mail server as we can in 5.2?

    Glad its finally hit the ground :)

    Good to see the facility to appoint a user as "Zarafa admin" to manage the public folders. Perhaps the default quote should be higher than 100MB? that doesn't go far...and would be better to drill it down from unlimited if required?

    From my experience with Zarafa the system-mysql backend is fine until you need to dump or restore it for backup purposes. It causes headaches, and the Zarafa provided scripts for database manipulation don't work (case in point is their script to move attachments from Mysql to the filesystem). Nothing more than a general inconvenience such as having to find your system-mysql password, and the Zarafa database etc...

    Having Zarafa Webaccess running off the standard web server simplifies things somewhat. I only moved it in 5.2 so that it was not dependant on the PHP version as there were many and the php-mapi extension had to be rebuilt. Because no one likes to remember port numbers in URLs I also used a ProxyPass config to pass data to the webconfig in 5.2...IMHO this added extra complexity and made it hard to implement https connections for webmail, and also complicated z-push. If we can i'd like to see webaccess https only using the normal web server...

    I've never really investigated it, but Zarafa offers a Zarafa-contacts functionality such that users can store contact information in LDAP...is that feasible?

    Good to see the 'webapp' in the repo too, this is the ultimate replacement of webaccess and is pretty reliable from my testing in 5.2 :)

    Will Zarafa support a multi-tenancy setup? or are you still going for the single mail domain target for SOHO use

    Its also been requested in the past to be able to configure 'zarafaSendAsPrivilege' so that nominated users can send on behalf of someone else. Last one! for some reason the default /etc/zarafa/server.cfg disables POP3 and IMAP (see disabled_features = imap pop3), not really sure why - it would appear you can then enable POP/IMAP access on a per user basis, but thats not a setup i'd see frequently? It would be better to enable globally...
