Hi all,

Pleased to report that the release of ClearOS Community Edition 6.3 beta (ISOs) is imminent...possibly tomorrow! As anyone who has used these forums will know, the introduction of the mail stack, powered by Zarafa, is the highlight.

And if you're aware of that, you'll know that much of the integration work for Zarafa has been done by a volunteer ClearFoundation Community member, Tim Burgess, in the 5.x series. Prior to version 6, we didn't have a model to support and foster community contributions. With the huge effort Pete et al have put into the framework and developer docs, and with the introduction of Marketplace, we do.

I was able to hookup for a beer with Tim when I was in the UK last month. It was interesting getting his perspective on ClearOS and the Community...More recently, Mike and Tim batted around different ideas of how Zarafa Community app should enter the Marketplace. We all agreed it would be nice to give Tim more than just a beer (I hope I picked up the tab...I really can't remember) for all the time he's put into the project...not just on the Zarafa app integration, but in supporting users via the forums.

The net result is that Zarafa Community Edition is going to have a modest ($US 10), one-time fee to purchase and download the app. The bulk of the proceeds from users who purchase this app from the Marketplace will go directly to Tim - ClearCenter is only slightly more than a payment facilitator.

I'll be interested to see what the community 'pulse' will be on this decision...it's my hope that many of you will understand that this is good for Tim, good for future developers to the ClearOS platform, good for ClearOS --- and ultimately, good for ClearOS users.

Cheers,

Ben

Well my issue is resolved. ISP (Frontier) moved my buisness class dsl down to a res dsl without telling me.... thus blocking inbound port 25.
They are putting my buisness class back in place on Thursday.

Ive been pulling my hair out for the last two weeks. I could just kick these people in the sack

Hi Patrick - the stores will not necessarily match the same username any more, there is an additional step as outlined in my link to use the zarafa-admin command to unhook and hook stores to the right places as required.

If you have an existing mail zarafa database you may need to drop that one first (syntax can be found on the net as I don't have it to hand) before importing.

I think my dumping did go wrong. the dumpfile size is to small as it looks now.
will try another dumping no (with the help of Nick) the old server almost running up without network errors.

    ---- UPDATE ----
i've succeed with the database recovery. The file was only 20kb and on must be 76mb (still small...)
after dropping the database i've imported the dump. My mails were put in my wifes mail box and my mailbox was empty.
very strange, but my most important emails have been recovered.
Moved every thing to my mailbox using outlook and i works now again.

    /usr/clearos/sandbox/usr/bin/mysql -u zarafa -p password < /tmp/zarafadump.sql

ERROR 1064 (42000) at line 1: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1

Tim does the order of the A records matter in my clear account settings. Base would be the first? If so then my mx should match the first A record ie "server"

ok thanks Tim. Im setting the parameters for this new domain the-killians.com

So far ive got the outbound working.
I think something is hosed up in webaccess

How can I uninstall it and reinstall it?

    EDIT:
Isnt there a newer version of Zarafa out to upgrade to?
Also I recall in a previous version of zarafa that some items werent turned on. Is that still the case

    ie...
    Zarafa Delivery Agent Running
    Zarafa iCal Gateway Running
    Zarafa POP/IMAP Gateway Running
    Zarafa Quota Monitor Running
    Zarafa Search Indexer Running
    Zarafa Server Running
    Zarafa Spooler Running

or are they all to be running now

Hi Jeff, its OK if both exist and match IP...but do you want mail to be sent to user1@server.sharkster.org? or user1@sharkster.org. If the latter you'll need an MX record or A record for the base of your domain

I just registered a new domain through clearos today. the-killians.com
You think it best I wipe this server and reinstall using the new domain info from clearos?
Currently my sharkster.org domain is going through register.com
Currently I dont have anything loaded on this server yet that needs to be saved or migrated.

Your log entries are all empty (i.e. they show no incoming mail). My hunch is your problem is with the DNS record / port 25 access?

If you want to see the MX record (if any) for your domain run 'dig MX domainname.com'. You don't need an MX record if you have a valid A record for your domain - but it appears your A record for the root of your domain 'sharkster.org' is not setup.

IP's are usually tied to MAC addresses, or kept until the lease time expires (24hr?) depending on the ISP. Here on a cable modem I have to turn everything off for 30seconds, then power the modem back on, WAIT 30 secs! then boot the server up to get a new IP... the order is important. You can find your IP lease information here /var/lib/dhclient/dhclient-eth0.leases ...you can also force your connection down and up by running 'ifdown eth0 && ifup eth0'

Having port 25 blocked is a problem - as incoming mail will attempt to connect direct to your SMTP server at port 25, unless you use some port redirection service to change it upstream. Are Frontier your ISP? do you have a mail forwarding / redirection service with them?

Something appears to be hosed up here.
I figured something might be goofy with the ip so last night (several times) i tried to dump that ip and renew. It keeps giving me this same ip back.
I figured ok this linux server has somewhat of an affect on the dhcp ip's issued by me isp so I plugged my laptop straight into the dsl modem and sure enough it gave it a completely different ip. I left it undone for a few hours and then plugged the server back in and rebooted. Damn thing gave me the same ip back. I unplugged everything and left it down overnight. Boot up in the morning and it gives me the same damn ip as I listed., It will not release.

Port 25 isnt used by frontier. They use 587 however I have 25 and 587 open.
Let me check this other stuff you mentioned

Hi Jeff1965, couple of things to check:-

    1. is your DNS record setup ok for your domain? i.e. if you run 'dig yourdomain.com' do you get the right IP address back?
    2. Is port 25 open for incoming mail? have you check whether its blocked by your ISP?
    3. Does mail actually arrive, use command 'tail -f /var/log/maillog' to watch it live and send mail to your domain...if it logs entries then at least you can verify its arrival
    4. Does the mail get handled properly by postfix and sent to zarafa? you should find a corresponding log in /var/log/system for the "mailfilter: successfully completed" and also at /var/log/zarafa/dagent.log "Delivered message to 'USER'"
    5. Have you set the mail domain in the webconfig first System > Mail Settings? (if you edit a user does the user have alias@domain.com or a blank domain entry?) This query is related to an earlier issue I saw with ldap

Hi Patrick - you can create a mail database dump using system-mysql in ClearOS 6.3. You'll need the zarafa database password first...
    grep password /etc/zarafa/server.cfg
    /usr/clearos/sandbox/usr/bin/mysqldump -u zarafa -p -v --single-transaction zarafa > /var/tmp/zarafadump.sql

Hi Patrick, yes but with caution because your installed app version doesn't support it fully...so you'll be left to mange things from the command line. Also upgrading to 7.1.x will update your system database and you won't be able to downgrade, or import 7.0.x databases.

Hi Patrick, it's coming in 6.4 beta 2 :-) and exists as a tracker entry
    http://tracker.clearfoundation.com/view.php?id=740

The upgrade required some app tweaks due to package naming (zarafa-search now replaces zarafa-indexer)

    P.S Latest version is 7.1.3

    Hi Tim,
Any plans of lounging an update to 7.1.11 for clearfos 6.3 or do you suggest a manual update.

Just came back from the server migration..(it was doozey). MAJOR thanks tim for your advice. What I realised was due to ldap peoples stores were being hooked to different users after restoring the database which is why it seemed like they didn't have anything.

It was a long process of unhooking and re-hooking but we finally got it done and migrated so a very successful and happy job done on our part now we just have to get it live after making sure it's stable for a week and were good to go. I think if I need to do this again I will make some scripts that will un-hook and re-hook mailboxes for me as it is quite a tedius job.

Good to know things can be recovered from scratch.

I have been paying attention to those threads luckily my clients have 7.0.8. as I never upgraded them to 7.1. cuase of the issue when 7.1. came out for 5.2 and they are quite a big deal to us and they were stable.

I did notice some stores that needed to be rehooked however some users did not seem to show, it could be however that the mysql dump didn't go as well as expected so this may of been the case. Thanks for these notes Tim as always thanks providing support.

You can migrate successfuly between ClearOS versions ( I have here before ) but beware Zarafa versions, at present ClearOS 6.3 ships with Zarafa 7.0.8 - we are hoping to bump up to 7.1.2 with ClearOS 6.4. ClearOS 5.2 can use up to 7.1.1...some users have found issues importing databases onto an older version of Zarafa. See Guus experience above in this thread.

You will also need to rehook all the stores again, as the user UID values will have changed, so Zarafa may not be able to identify which stores

I posted some of my migration notes here - might be of use

Thanks tim for the quick feedback I am actually doing a migration today (moving from 5.2 to 6.3) and this puts alot less stress on me as they have paid for licenses.

While your around I thought you might be able to give me some advice if you got some time..

This migration were doing I've tried to do mysql dumps of the old server and then restore it onto clearos 6.3 however this hasn't been successful.

Even though I have successfully moved the /var/lib/zarafa attachments folder over

mailboxes either are half the size they should be or the proper size or sometimes empty.

I do have alternatives for the migration (imapsync and zarafa-backup restore) However it isn't ideal for disaster recovery as the database would have their signatures and personal settings.

Do you know if there are problems with migrating zarafa if the mysql version is older then the one you are migrating to? (I can assume 5.2 has an older version then 6.3)

Hi James, thanks for the feedback - on closer inpsection it appears to be a bug (it should only show users with zarafaAccount enabled in LDAP)

You can verify which users have Zarafa access by running 'zarafa-admin -l'

I'll file a bug report, for now the work around is edit /etc/zarafa/ldap.cfg, change following line to:-
    ldap_user_search_filter =  (zarafaAccount=1)

Then run 'service zarafa-server restart' and run 'zarafa-admin-l' again to see the change - all non Zarafa users should be hidden and excluded from license counts

Tim I'm having some problems with zarafa for clearos 6.x

Even though I select user disabled in the gui when I create a user zarafa makes a user anyway which isn't ideal as they have a license and they don't need to waste anymore users.

Have you come across this problem before and know how to resolve this?

Zarafa, Fetchmail and catchall ISP email.

hai, i have read many recommendation of how to setting zarafa,
    here's the situation.

i have a domain with mx record pointing to free google.apps, and has 1 account (bulkmail) specific for catchall.
my clearos connected to ADSL line and trying to fetch the email from that bulkmail account and sent to zarafa.

i've read many recommendation for this setting, the closest solution is to create fetchmail by 1 to 1 account,
    http://www.clearfoundation.com/component/option,com_kunena/Itemid,232/catid,14/func,view/id,44365/

is there any way that we can use fetchmail and using envelope to deliver the mail to zarafa ?

Thanks - yes it was php-eaccelerator that caused the problem.

.. which is great for moodle, but have added the following lines to Zarafa's .htaccess and it has solved the problem.

    php_flag eaccelerator.enable 0
    php_flag eaccelerator.optimizer 0

Guus - if you still have the patience, install Zarafa 7.1.1 first manually as above using yum, then install the app via the Marketplace. It should work OK, and you'll have the newer version so you can then import your mail.

Peter, happy new year to you! do you by any chance use php-eaccelerator? it has been known to cause similar problems. You might find a clue at /var/log/httpd/access.log.

Do you have any kind of reverse proxy setup or other non standard config?. There are lots of bug fixes in the minor releases which may help too, so an upgrade may help. One last thought have you tried disabling / enabling the zarafa-indexer service?
    http://download.zarafa.com/community/final/7.0/final-changelog-7.0.txt

There are issues with database versions between major .1 releases, such as 7.0.x and 7.1.x or 6.40.x but not usually in minor releases. You would find clues in /var/log/zarafa/server.log after you restart the zarafa-server service.

    Hello Guus

See that you're a lot further now, so my own how-to is irrelevent, however I will be looking forward to your final conclusion : - )

Hi Tim - Happy New Year also. I have to report that I still have the problem of the little red outlined box, bottom left in webaccess, that says Server Error 500 when I click on certain emails, but also when I open some notes, contacts, etc.

I found this zarafa forum thread, https://forums.zarafa.com/showthread.php?2445-solved-HTTP-Fehler-500-Internal-Server-Error, which although it’s rather old, does mention a problem with the different versions - our current is 7.05 and the clearos 6.3 is 7.08. Could this be the problem - i.e do you know if the migration between 2 zarafa systems needs to exactly correspond to both versions?

    Greetings

    Peter

    Hello Tim,

to me it also is a mistery :( . All the packages where in the local directory and installation is done with 'yum localinstall *.rpm' as instructed.
I've already tried to manually install the client but then the systems tells me that the 7.1.1 client is already installed. And when I try to uninstall the 7.1.1 client the systems says that client 7.0.8 is installed not 7.1.1. So beat me.

I've now decided to do one last fresh install of the server and wait until update your 6.4 is out so that I can import my old e-mail in this updated version.

    Anyway, thanks for all support.

Anyhow, we are looking to get Zarafa 7.1.2 out shortly for ClearOS6.4. I've uploaded the Zarafa 7.1.1 RPM's here to enable you to upgrade and get your server working again. Download the zarafa, php-mapi and python-mapi RPM's using wget to a local temporary folder, then run 'yum localinstall *.rpm'

    Tim,

when I try the local install I get following error message:

    Error: Package: zarafa-search-7.1.1-37812.x86_64 (/zarafa-search-7.1.1-37812.x86_64)
    Requires: libkyotocabinet.so.16()(64bit)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

So I also downloaded kyotocabinet-lib and kyotocabinet. Now all dependencies are met and server is updated to zarafa 7.1.1 ending with the following error: zarafa-client-7.0.8-35178.x86_64 was supposed to be removed but is not!
and therefore the client isn't updated.

I removed the complete zarafa installation and did a new localinstall with following output

    Installed:

Guus - sorry to hear of your troubles. I didn't know you had already installed Zarafa 7.1.1

Please note that these are provided in advance of the app upgrade, so the zarafa-indexer service will no longer work from the webconfig. (Now known as zarafa-search, and can be operated from the command line)

If you have continued problems with your CD / DVD drive I suggest you start another thread to prevent polluting this (long) one already :) When you burn the image (CD) make sure you choose 'disc-at-once' (DAO), and of course check the md5 and make sure your ISO image is not corrupt.

Try a USB install if you can. Have a look at this thread for one method and follow the link for the method I used. There is a third method floating around somewhere as well.
