Hi, I'm new to ClearOS. I'm trying to get zarafa running so I can replace my Exchange server. only a couple users on the server right now. I installed the zafara-licensed service module from Tim's ftp site, version 7.1.4-41394.x86_64.rpm but it will not start up. I've tried to start from cmd line and all it says is exiting from within ClearOS I get an error box saying "Command execution failed." I'm running the latest ClearOS community version and the $10 Zarafa server installed through ClearOS. I really need some help, we run a small non-profit advocacy group to fight against work place deaths and we use e-mail to communicate with members all over the world.
Thanks, much appreciate any help!

Okay, you got me! LOL Maybe familiarity is a better description... At one time I was an MCSE, well back in the day. I'm an engineer for an OEM wheel manufacture now. On the side I help run this organization where I'm tasked as the Treasurer and IT guy. I am passionate about computers, ran a small computer store in the 90's, where I built my own brand of PC and also provided IT services for a lot of the local business. It was a time in my life that I will never forget! The 90's were a very exciting time for all of the self named geeks.. Believe me I will not surrender my interest in Linux...

Sorry that it didn't work out... there is a bit of a learning curve to deploy ClearOS+Zarafa but it's not usually that complicated to get it setup and running as I think it would have delivered what you want
IMHO reliability and stability is not something you normally associate with Microsoft Servers -

Hi Tim,
I really appreciate all of your help. I am a Microsoft guy not by choice, it's just what I cut my teeth on.. I have messed with Linux distros since 1995, I think Slackware was my first distro. I have used Redhat server with Fetchmail and Postfix along with MS Server for many years. However this is for my Non-Profit and really want something stable and reliable. I have obtained MS Server 2012 along with Exchange 2013 for less than $100 through Techsoup.org. They provide donated software for non-profit's for just the admin fees. I can't beat that price with anything else on the market and get the reliability and stability I get with Microsoft.
Again thanks for the help! I hope this discussion provides someone help on their project..
Sincerely,

Mark you wont find those tools in the community version - you should be looking at the professional version which has 'zarafa-backup' a brick level mailbox backup and restore tool
Mailboxes are stored within system-MySQL which is the backend database used for ClearOS... you can do full database dumps using mysqldump if required (see the forum posts for details). You can also find information about users using the 'zarafa-admin' command -

Hi Tim,
I did install the latest client on the PC and I did find that if I use cached mode this happens, change to online and I am able to access the store. The only thing I don't like is the store management. I cannot seem to find it. This bothers me because I really like to have control of the mail store and where it is backed up. Is there a management tool available for this? I found Z-Admin but it's not suitable for ClearOS.
Thanks,

Hi Tim,
Thanks for sticking with me!
I am able to use the webaccess for Zarafa and it works pretty well. Had to jump through some hoops to get the SMTP relay setup but finally figured out a way to do it.
Using Outlook presents a real issue for me, at least when using MAPI. I cannot get to the mail store, it sets up just fine, finds the MAPI server but no e-mail, just an error. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Hi Mark, you will find clues in /var/log/zarafa/licensed.log and /var/log/zarafa/server.log, the latter should show evidence that the licensed service is running and detected.
MAPI versions for Outlook 2010 should be OK in Zarafa 7.1.10
http://www.zarafa.com/wiki/index.php/Zarafa_Outlook_2010_Support
Have you looked at the admin manual for the client side config? http://doc.zarafa.com
Have you enabled Zarafa for that particular user? have you tried logging in to the users store via webaccess as a test that the store does actually exist? (http://clearos/webaccess) or if you have zarafa-webapp installed (http://clearos/webapp) -

Hi Tim,
Well I did find the issue in the server.cfg file, I got rid of the index_services_prefix_chars request and the server starts fine. I was able to find the server from Outlook and connect but when I launch Outlook I get an connection error code: (0x80004002), saying "Failed: MAPI_E_INTERFACE_NOT_SUPPORTED"
I guess this just wasn't meant to happen! LOL I'm at a loss! Do you know what may be the issue now? Maybe my Outlook version is too old? I'm using version 2007. I have 2010 on one of my laptops, i'll try that.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Hi Mark, you're at risk of messing things up here particularly if you are moving between Zarafa major versions (7.0.x to 7.1.x) as the database is also upgraded
run 'service zarafa-server restart' from the command line and it will tell you what the error is (or check /var/log/zarafa/server.log)... there is one old line which is usually removed in the upgrade process to 7.1.x:-
index_services_prefix_chars if present needs to be removed from /etc/zarafa/server.cfg -

Hi Tim,
I done some cleanup and uninstalled the original licensed server and then I was able to install without error and the zarafa-licensed server starts fine. However now the zarafa-server will not start, it says errors in the conf file. I'm assuming the zarafa-server.cfg file. Not sure what to look for though.. Got any ideas?

Ah... sysstat is available in the clearos-core repo (disabled by default), you can enable it one time with the following flag
yum --enablerepo=clearos-core,zarafa-community-testing install zarafa-licensed
(FYI zarafa-licensed is a closed source component and not normally installed with the community version)
You can find a list of recently updated packages in /var/log/yum.log - which might indicate if the upgrade finished, more likely that it timed out? If you run 'yum upgrade' manually from the command line does it report any problems -

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the info! I tried installing with yum and I get errors. "systat is needed, and dependency error. What should I try next? The license server has never started, i've rebooted and made sure there were no errors but still will not start.
The slow update was through the clearos webmin page. There was an update for Zarafa through community71. I hit the update button and it appears to be updating but it never finishes, can't really see what its doing, just has a popup that says update in progress.
Thanks,

Hi Mark, you don't need the version from my FTP site which is now outdated... just install with yum and it should pull it in from the repo's
yum install zarafa-licensed
service zarafa-licensed restart
service zarafa-server restart
Note that the 'free' zarafa-licensed version only gives you 3No. Outlook MAPI connections... you can have infinite IMAP or POP mailboxes which can also be acessed via Outlook or use Webaccess users. What do you need?
Yes, you can upgrade to 7.1.10 from the zarafa-updates-testing repo if you wish... it shouldn't take a long time, do you mean the mirrors are slow? if so run 'yum clean all' and 'yum --enablerepo=zarafa-updates-testing upgrade' again and it should pick up a new one -
