Change DansGuardian to e2guardian

Hi

Is ClearOS 7 still using DansGuardian for the content filter module? If so, have the devs had a look at e2guardian? It's a fork of DansGuardian, with quite a few additional features including SSL fitering.

Yes, it is time to move on from DansGuardian since it's getting a little old and crusty. There has been some experimentation with the Redwood filter and it was recently imported into the ClearOS Github source code control system @ https://github.com/clearos/redwood-filter. It won't be ready for ClearOS 7.1, but there is an alternative in the works! David and Darryl are championing the project, so I don't know much about the feature set.

    Please hurry and either switch from Dansguardian or fix the 1000 process limit. I must have content filtering for our campus and like ClearOS. But I might be forced to move on.

    Content filtering should be a top priority instead of adding new features.

    @Michael

    Unfortunately I don't know anything more than what I've read on the website either, found it while looking for DansGuardian alternatives. I haven't tried installing e2guardian on ClearOS yet, but I can have a look.

    @Bianca & Werner

    Thank you for the heads-up regarding alternatives to DansGuardian. Have a couple questions regarding your inquiry.

    Do you know much about either Frederic Bourgeois or E2BN Protex Ltd other then what can be found on the E2BN website?

    Have you successfully deployed ClearOSO and e2guardian? If so, in how many locations and what has your experience been?

    Great to see you guys are always looking towards the future with ClearOS

    I've had a look at the Redwwod filter and it looks very interesting, very similar to the e2guardian I mentioned. Just wondering if Redwood filter is compatible with the URLBlacklist and Shalla url lists. Also, does it support Tproxy mode to keep the source IP address?
