I've recovered from a recent mess and seem to have a stable working system. But I'm seeing lots of errors in samba logs, and I'd like to understand or fix them. I've googled through many, but there are some remaining I don't have a handle on. Can anyone give me some clues? (server is named ENT, my backup server is named DOGWOOD, domain is FOREST)

Many Thanks for Your Patience!
Drew

log-nmbd: I see this sequence about every 10 minutes. Note that the IP 10.4.8.17 is the address of my WiFi radio to my ISP, and shouldn't be involved in any way that I know of. It's not hard coded anywhere, and I don't use DHCP for the external link. The radio is set to bridge and I use my public IP as my external. Weird?!

    News:

I solved the problem where I was seeing another user's share when I was logged on. I eventually realized it was an offline share. I turned off Offline Files in windows and now this problem is gone.

I think the share was incorreectly connected to my account during an earlier Windows faux pas. All on the Windows client end!

    Thanks,
    Drew

I've eliminated a lot of the errors below, but I still have a few I can't explain. (All this is Win 7 client)

    1. Setting
    domain master = No
    local master = No
on my backup server has eliminated it battling with the PDC for local browser status. However, the backup machine now reads as "pdc" rather than "Simple file and Print Server" in the web UI. Is that normal?

    2. Even with the local browser conflict resolved, I see this error every 15 minutes in log.nmbd.

    [2010/07/18 10:44:29.354478, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:485(get_domain_master_name_node_status_fail)

    Cannot get workgroup name.

Weird, 10.4.8.17 is my ISP's WiFi link (I'm connected via wireless). Why am I seeing this address?

    3. I see these errors in ent-oak. (oak is my user PC) This seems to be related to the fact that I can see my wife's home share as well as my own on this machine. This shoudn't be. Do I have some sort of corrupt database on the PDC? I really need to address this. I deleted my account and recreated it, and that didn't help.

    create_connection_server_info failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

    4. I cannot browse to my backup server samba shares. Should I be able to even though it isn't a PDC? Do I have to enable port 445 in Samba, or is there something else that I have to do mnaually?

    Thanks all!
    Drew
