Quickbooks Enterprise 10 On ClearOS

A salesman comes to you and says, 'I have a client that is really excited about using ClearOS and getting rid of their over-complex environment.' Well maybe not this excited, but you get the point.

You start to ask the technical questions and you find out that they are running Quickbooks Enterprise 10 (QBE10) in their environment. As the engineer you start to think of all the creative ways you can get this done, virtualization, running the DB engine from a workstation that stays on, keeping their old Windows Server around ... But for this client, none of them fit the bill as nicely as an integrated solution.

That integration barrier is coming down here at ClearCenter. We have completed phase one of Quickbooks Enterprise 10 integration with ClearOS 5.2. This first phase consists of command line instruction through the ClearFoundation and support of QBE10 through ClearCare. Subsequent phases will include the addition of QBE Server 10 as a module in Webconfig and integrated configuration of the QBE service through its own database screen.

Quickbooks Enterprise 10 is a product of Intuit who has been helping small businesses and individuals with their financial accounting and tax preparation needs for over 25 years.

  • @Nish -- The "marketplace" will be part of ClearOS 6.0! You will see some movement in that direction with ClearOS 5.2 Service Pack 1, and we'll finish the job in 6.0.   • Glad to hear about the planned support for QBE. That will tremendously affect the feasibility of moving away from Windows Servers altogether. This is great news.

  • Our small business has long struggled with trying to support QBE. We ran it on a SBS2003 box but the cost with supporting it was prohibitive, the accountants didn't like to have one desktop powered up all the time, tried running the Linux port of the DB server but QB Linux support was so shoddy we eventually had to opt for a virtual XP machine. So I have one CentOS box running one virtual XP machine. Hardly optimal. . .

    QBE support built into ClearOS would be a great selling point and long term solution. ClearOS fits the small business niche with ease of use and TCO, adding QBE would be a dream come true.

    One issue I have run into in dealing with QBE DB server on Linux is that the supplied RPM on works properly on 32 bit machines not on 64 bit. All of our boxes are 64 bit.

    I'm eager to test this out.

  • This is great news. We are planning on starting up a new company and getting another clearbox as the server.
    We were evaluating using QBE and Xtuple for our finance/ERP needs. Requiring another server for the accounts application would have been a waste. Have you also considered getting Xtuple integrated?

    More generally, I think there is a huge opportunity for an open source application "marketplace" integrated into clearos. I know everyone seems to be jumping onto the marketplace bandwagon. Still, the ability to easily install, backup and manage business applications (CRM, ERP, BI etc) through clear console would be a huge advantage. Basically Jumpbox for ClearOS (with or without virtualization).
